A pet has died, should the owner advise AAR?

What is your Change of Ownership Policy?

Change of ownership policy including animals missing, stolen or in an ownership dispute

Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to outline AAR’s standard change of ownership process and where an animal’s profile is marked as missing or stolen or where there is an ownership dispute.
Definitions
This policy uses the following terms:
1. ‘registered owner’ means the person or company who is the primary carer of the animal who feeds and cares for the animal each day and where the animal normally lives.
2. ‘alternate contact’ means a person or company who has been nominated by the Owner as asecondary contact in the case that the Owner is unable to be contacted on the information provided.
Transfer process
Animal registered on AAR’s database:
1. Change of ownership form to be completed in full with current registered owner’s signature and submitted to AAR via email, fax or post.
2. If current registered owner’s signature cannot be obtained, AAR will contact the current owner in writing and advise them of the transfer request.
3. The current owner has 14 days to notify AAR if there are any issues with the change of ownership request. If no response received, AAR will complete the transfer.
Missing, Stolen or Ownership Dispute

4.1. Where a change of ownership request has been received for an animal that has been flagged as missing or stolen by the registered owner, AAR will do the following:
1. AAR will contact the registered owner to confirm the status. If the registered owner is uncontactable, AAR will then call the alternate contact in order to get in touch with the registered owner.
2. If contact cannot be made, AAR will write to the registered owner to advise them of the transfer request. The current owner has 14 days to notify AAR if there are any issues with the change of ownership request. If no response received, AAR will complete the transfer.
3. If the registered owner declines the transfer, the registration will remain unchanged.The person requesting the transfer will be notified in writing that their transfer request has been declined. This now becomes a civil matter and will need to be resolved between the relevant parties or via the courts.

4.2. Where a change of ownership request has been received for an animal where the record shows there is an ownership dispute, AAR will do the following, unless an order of a court or VCAT has been received by AAR.

1. AAR will contact the registered owner by phone to determine if the dispute is ongoing.
2. If the dispute has been resolved, AAR will complete the transfer.
3. If the dispute remains unresolved, AAR will not amend the record to change the ownership of theanimal.
4. Ownership disputes are a civil matter and will need to be resolved between the parties or via thecourts.

Note: The AAR database is not a register of proprietary ownership.

Change of ownership can be done online or if you prefer, you may complete the form and email, fax or post it back to us.

I don't have an AAR Authorised User ID number, what do I do?

Download the AAR Authorised User ID Request form, send it into us and you will soon receive an ID number to enable you to access our database and use all our services.

The animal is microchipped, isn't that enough?

No - absolutely not. Microchipping just provides you with an individual number that you need to register with a nation wide fully accredited register - AAR can provide you with this service for a small one off fee.

Does the service really operate 24 hours, 7 days a week?

Yes, by using your ID number you can access the site at anytime, plus we have a fully trained AAR officer available 24 hours a day on freecall 1800 025 461 (Australia) or 0800 441 726 (New Zealand).

Why do I have to use the AAR forms?

These forms have been specially recreated to enable us to scan them. This minimises human intervention and ensures greater accuracy of the information about your clients animals. Do not photocopy or create your own forms as these will not be entered on the register. You can email us if you are encountering problems with your forms.

How do I buy prepaid forms?

Simply download the AAR Prepaid Registration Order Form, fill out your credit card details - send to us and we will process your order immediately. The benefits of prepaid forms are that your clinic's User ID number will come as a barcode on the form, saving you time filling in the form. Please note that prepaid forms are like money and will not be replaced if they are lost or damaged.

Can anyone register their pet with AAR?

Yes, however the registered owner must be 18 years or older.

Do you have an alliance with any microchip companies?

No, we are an independent register. We supply our registrations to many microchip companies, who package them with a microchip making it easy for you to buy a chip and registration in one easy transaction. Contact your wholesaler for more information on a product that best suits your needs.

What is your refund policy?

Subject to the relevant provisions of the Australian Consumer Law, AAR does not offer refunds.

When will I receive my pets’ registration certificate?

Where an email address is provided on the form, the registration certificate will be emailed on the next business day. If no email address is provided and a printed copy of the certificate has been requested, the certificate will be posted within one (1) week of registration.

How can I access all the registrations I have made on AAR?

Very easily - just log on here, enter your User Id number and the date range you require.

We are planning a microchipping day – can you help us promote it?

Yes, simply send us an email and we will do all we can by providing information, pamphlets, flyers etc that will help your clients understand microchipping and registration.

What can I register?

Unlike the NSW Government Companion Animal Registry AAR accepts any animal (not just cats and dogs). AAR can register llamas, pigs, ferrets, birds, horses - just to name a few, basically if you can microchip it we can register it!
